As you might have heard, the ever-successful and much-adored annual Mo Pop Festival has migrated and will no longer be held at the Freedom Hill Amphitheatre in Sterling Heights. Instead, it's moved into the city, and takes place over the course of two days now — at Detroit's West Riverfront Park. It's basically the same festival, but amplified with more indie music than before, and far more artisanal food and crafts than you can shake a bag of $7 kale chips at.
In addition to the dozens of acts, you'll find a fancy beer garden, a large assortment of food trucks, a craft bazaar with a ton of Etsy-style goodies, and for the first time ever a "tech tent" stuffed with local gadgets and news about cool new apps.
To celebrate the breadth of creativity and diversity of the Mo Pop fest, we've got three features for you: One about local singer-songwriter (and man can she ever sing) Jessica Hernandez, the groovy Brooklyn, New York, buzz band Dreamers, and on the exciting collaboration between Sam Beam of Iron and Wine and Ben Bridwell from Band of Horses (who we learn are friends from many moons ago).
