Don't look for any Hamtramck street signs reading "88 Avenue" while searching for the club of the same name. Instead, drive down Conant Street to Belmont Avenue and you'll find the discreet corner building. Owned by husband and wife Kaz and Eva Pasek, this eclectic enclave has been a well-kept secret for the past five years. Showcasing an array of DJs, it is no wonder that a few of Aretha Franklin's dancers have been seen frequenting the dance floor. Finding a place for great electronic music is hard enough, but finding the 88 Avenue mix of corner bar and Euro-club is even more difficult. Weeknights have more of a pub life atmosphere than Fridays and Saturdays, but the drinks are cheaper, the music is still fantastic and there is more opportunity at the pool table. So, whether you are into having a few laid-back beers or tearing up the dance floor, 88 Avenue can fulfill both requests. But don't show up too early or too hungry - the bar doesn't open until 7 p.m. and the food is limited to pretzels.
