Longtime Hamtramck resident Michael Hurtt is an amazingly talented dude. He's exactly the kind of self-made, working-class intellectual that I moved to the Detroit area to rub elbows with. I do not know him super well, but the three times we've hung out have left my brain ringing with possibility afterwards. Anyone who knows him even a little bit knows that he is super fiery and passionate.

His initial fundraising goals have been met (in just one day!) but Hurtt still needs help in paying for expenses related to the treatment for his lymphoma. He's been battling it for 6 months now, and “while his prognosis is fairly positive, the expenses of treatment and maintaining a household while unable to work have been significant.”

If you want to donate to his fund, go here.

Dude is a Kresge fellow currently working on a handful of crucial projects which each plumb new territory about overlooked cultural heritage. To quote James Marshall AKA "the Hound, "Help Michael Hurtt pay for his cancer treatments so he can get his Fortune Records book finished!"
