Forgot to mention in the "This & That" item below that the duo of Sunshine Doray will be celebrating the release of their eponymous debut disc this Sunday, June 29th, at Cliff Bell's in Detroit (2030 Park St.; 313-961-2543).
Comprised of Ferndale residents pianist-vocalist Kate Feeny and drummer-vocalist Deanne Iovan, Sunshine Doray incorporate a wide range of styles in their eclectic sound, which jumps from jazz and old-time music hall to modern piano-based pop-rock. The album -- released on the Ferndale-based Gangplank label (home to American Mars and Blanche) was produced by Kate's husband Dave Feeny, who's also been behind the boards for the aforementioned Blanche as well as (with Jack White) the legendary Loretta Lynn.
The album was reportedly years in the making, and it's refreshing to see yet another element of Detroit music that goes beyond garage rock and electro-pop.
