It looks like the demise of the Lager House as a legendary Detroit rock venue may have been greatly exaggerated, to skewer an old cliche.
In fact, the following post appeared on the Corktown club's MySpace page as of yesterday (cut and pasted below in its entirety with grammar and punctuation as it appears on the site; hey, I get paid to edit ... and the Lager House ain't payin' me ... yet!):
NO! For the umpteenth time, NO! The Lager House may, in the next few weeks, be transferring ownership. But, nothing about The Lager House will change. It's still going to be the same shit hole you love going to. The bathrooms may see some renovation, thank god. But, other than that there will be very few changes. Yes, it's true. Rich and Jay are no longer booking shows at the Lager House. They're just burnt out and need a break. Rich did an awesome job for six years, but now he's moving on. So, if you're looking to book a show, send a message on myspace, mail your shit into the Lager, Attn: Aaron @ 1254 Michigan Ave., Detroit, Mi 48226 or e-mail your information to adrianne@lagerhousedetroit.com. We're still booking bands, we just have a little gap due to the changeover in booking. So, wipe your tears you fucking morons and come up for a drink. Since we don't have bands right now, it's a perfect time for you to bring up your ipod, plug it into that monstrosity of a tuner, jam out to YOUR favorite music and drink, drink, drink.
Aaron's working tonight so come up and buy him a shot.

The Weakley family, who've owned the dive club during its entire stint as a music venue, are indeed selling the establishment. But new owner P.J. Ryder (the owner of P.J.'s Used Records in Ann Arbor) and George Kelly (a Dearborn-based musician) swear that it will still feature live rock music. In fact, the partners say that after the deal goes down, the Lager House will be presenting live bands every night of the week as opposed to its former several nights a week schedule. What is true, however, is that most of the club's former staff will be replaced with new employees. Live music will be on sabbatical during the transition but the new owners are hoping to have everything in place by the end of this month.
