Good news for lovers of the blues: John's Carpet House, the free, outdoor blues party that overtakes a string of lots on the north side of Frederick between St. Aubin and Dubois each week in good weather, will play on this year.

As we covered in an interview with organizer Albert "Big Pete" Barrow last year, city officials were putting the squeeze on the weekly festival of music, dance, and sunshine, in another example of the city's one-size-fits-all treatment of inventive, unconventional forms of entertainment.

Well, it sounds as though, for now, the city got the message that the venue has earned its right to operate. At least that's what we conclude from a posting on the Facebook page for John's Carpet House, which read:

On 3-3-2015 we were approved by city counsel to continue with our free summer jam, the only one with reservation was counsel man Tate, hope to see everyone this summer, Big Pete

Congratulations to Barrow and the crew for beating City Hall on this one. We'll see you there come May!
