Because he has a
new album out at the end of next month, the 43 year-old, Detroit-reared Robert James Ritchie, aka Kid Rock,
spoke with the UK's respected Guardian newspaper two days ago.
The piece reads all in the first person, and appears to be condensed from a longer interview. It's a mini-manifesto filled with the clear-eyed braggadocio that's just shy of being bigoted, as if he were a Southern politician speaking with NPR. As a friend said earlier today, surely the gays of the U.S. all breathed a sigh of relief that though he might not like the idea, as a minister(WTF?), Rock would indeed wed them. The sad thing is that Rock's common sense stance on abortion (he's "no fan" but maybe men can't tell women what to do with their bodies) pegs him as "liberal" in today's climate. Almost as sad is the fact that I just reported on what Kid Rock thinks about abortion.
The part of the brief interview that's generated the most attention (aside from where he says that rap-rock turned out to be "pretty gay," which is such a slur against gays) is where Rock speaks to his place on the economic ladder. "I’m not just wealthy, I’m loaded. I can say that because I’m not embarrassed – I’ve made a fuck-ton of money, but I’ve never made a dishonest dollar. I try to do right by the people around me." Using the admittedly-flawed Internet websites which calculate the net worth of celebrities, we were curious where that placed the rap-rocker turned country-rocker in relation to his peers.
Up and coming Detroit rapper Danny Brown allegedly has a
net worth of $1.25 million.
Because nothing in this world is fair, rap-rock pioneer Fred Durst is worth
$15 million.
Draft-dodging right-wing sociopath and former member of the Amboy Dukes, Ted Nugent is worth
$20 million. I wonder if he has it all hidden in Krugerrands, in booby-trapped caves hidden all around his doomsday prepper estate?
The net worth of our pals the Insane Clown Posse? It's listed as
$30 million, though that sounds low to us.
Kid Rock is said to be worth
$80 million. That's a lot of strippers and blow.
Topping our list of Detroit and/or rap-rock musical royalty, made with dodgy information gleaned from the Internet, Eminem is allegedly worth
$170 million.
