Though he may be roped into some recent Usher-based drama, that can’t stop seductive R&B sweetheart August Alsina from doing what he does best — producing sweaty, grind-worthy declarations of sex, love, and hard knocks. Raised in New Orleans with a torn and tragic family history, it’s no wonder that Alsina’s music scratches far beyond the surface of traditional hip-hop. A heartfelt success story (tabloid B.S. aside) Alsina’s last studio record 2015’s This Thing Called Life debuted at No. 14 on the Billboard Charts, and gave rise to five straight fire singles including “Why I Do It” (Feat. Lil Wayne.)
August Alsina will perform at the Fillmore, located at 2115 Woodward Ave., in Detroit, on Friday, Aug. 18. Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets start at $33. For more info call 313-961-5451 or go to thefillmoredetroit.com.
