Leslie Feist’s first show was opening for the Ramones, after winning a battle of the bands while still in high school. A decade removed, Feist is established. Her lovely voice steals in with a gentle, buttery grace, which colors her jazzy, cabaret-pop beautifully. Feist’s monomanias come in her waking moments:
5. I’ve been asleep on the bus, and I was gently nudged awake, so I’ve got a lot of sleepy things on my mind. I just finished reading The Master and Margarita by Bulgakov, and I just realized that all my beautiful, surreal dreams were biting his style.
4. We havea nutritionist/massage therapist/ merchandise seller. I realized it’s only a short walk from the massage therapist to having your own venue built in Vegas like Celine Dion.
3. I’ve got GarageBand on my computer. It’s almost a game it’s so simple. You don’t even need a microphone, you just sing into the air near your computer and it hears you. Last night I did my first multitracking on it. So I’m going to spend today learning its ins and outs.
2. Looking out all I can see is tree-lined streets, it could be anywhere in the world, but it’s Montreal, one of my favorite places. You can be downtown, have you breakfast in a great little diner, practice your French, and then five seconds later you’re at the foot of the Mountain, a beautiful park covered in a network of paths and forest.
1. I’m torn between duck-billed platypus and coffee. I’m so not awake. The platypus walked in, and he’s right in the middle of The Master and Margarita.
