Get down with Downtown Brown at 3rd Annual Brown Christmas
Doug Coombe
A polite rip-off of the Suicide Machine’s annual Black Christmas blowout, Detroit native Downtown Brown (think Andrew W.K. meets Tenacious D) created its annual Christmas Eve-Eve version, appropriately titled Brown Christmas. Formed in 2001, Downtown Brown has coined songs such as “Mullett Millennium” and “ZZ Cock,” and has toured with the Dead Kennedys, Insane Clown Posse, and Fishbone. In its third year, Brown Christmas invites a return performance by headliners Downtown Brown — who are touting their latest album, CaliFlorida — and the Detroit Marching Band, while the Lucid Furs and Carmel Liburdi are also on the bill.
The 3rd Annual Brown Christmas will take place at 8 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 23 at PJ's Lager House; 1254 Michigan Ave., Detroit; 313-961-4668; pjslagerhouse.com; Tickets are $12.
