15 SAT • V98.7 Smooth Jazz Fest — Boney James, Rick Braun, Jonathan Butler and Alexander Zonjic’s Smooth Jazz All-Stars featuring Dave McMurray and Tim Bowman perform the first evening of the Jazz Fest.

16 SUN • V98.7 Smooth Jazz Fest — Guitars and Saxes, Gerald Veasley, Alfonzo Blackwell, Four Play and Al Jarreau will perform in the concluding evening of the Jazz Fest.

21 FRI • Sugar Ray — The five-member band released its first album, Lemonade and Brownies, in 1995. Now, several top-10 hits later, the band returns to Detroit with a new album, Sugar Ray.

30 SUN • Brian McKnight — This R&B musician has worked with Boyz II Men and Quincy Jones. Most popular for his soulful romantic ballads, Brian McKnight is adored by millions for his sexy look and artistic talent.

3 WED • Inxs and Simple Minds – Both bands come back to the United States for their first tours in more than five years. Simple Minds will perform its ’80s classics as well as material from a new album released in April. Inxs, with new lead singer Jon Stevens, will play the legendary music that made its ’80s rock sound so unforgettable.

9 TUES • Cirque EOS — Straight from Quebec City, Canada, the circus troupe offers imaginative fun for the whole family.

12 FRI • Teddy Pendergrass and Jeffrey Osborne —– The two performers will perform two decades of their soul hits.

13 SAT • Golden Hits of Doo Wop: Little Anthony & the Imperials, the Coasters and the Original Drifters – After reuniting in 1992, Little Anthony and the Imperials bring their classic doo-wop talent back to Detroit with help from the Coasters and the Original Drifters.

16 TUES • Heart with Eric Burdon — The "Barracuda" sisters will sing all their classic songs. Together with Eric Burdon, a member of War and the Animals, this promises to be a fine show. Don’t spill your wine.

17 WED • Chris Isaak — Isaak has spent hours rolling around on sandy beaches lusting after beautiful models. He now returns to the music scene to put his sexy talents to work and to really drive the housewives crazy.

18 THURS • Little Bear and the Enchanted Wood — Little Bear, Owl, Cat and Emily take time off from their hit Nickelodeon show to perform for your children.

20 SAT • Kenny Rogers – The "Lady" singer will perform his country classics.

28 SUN • Billy Ray Cyrus — Cyrus will perform "Achy, Breaky Heart" and all those country line-dancing songs that have followed his 1992 breakthrough hit.

August

1 THURS • The Rippingtons, Jean-Luc Ponty and David Benoit — Innovators in contemporary jazz music, the three acts will combine to perform an outstanding evening of songs.

2 FRI • Michael Flatley’s Lord of the Dance — One of the most popular stage shows of our time, Flatley brings his Irish-jigging flair and Old World dance to Detroit.

4 SUN • Festa Italiana 2002 — Starring Connie Francis, Sal Richards and the Gaylords, the 30th anniversary of the festival will be celebrated with weekend-long entertainment and events.

6 TUES • Michael Bolton — Touring to support his new album, Only a Woman Like You, Bolton stops at Freedom Hill to prove he can still sing those romantic ballads without those luscious locks of blond hair.

8 THURS • Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons, Felix Cavaliere and Lou Christie — These ’60s sensations combine their voices for a concert that make you walk like a man.

9 FRI • 1964 Tribute: A Salute to the Beatles — The top tribute band in the world returns to Michigan to salute Paul, George, John and Ringo.

14 WED • Franklin the Turtle — Straight from his hit cartoon show, Franklin and his buddies will entertain the entire family with their hilarious antics and friendly fun.

15 THURS • Al Green with Ann Nesby — Recently inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the minister of rhythm and blues will perform a duet with Nesby.

16 FRI • Paul Anka — You can put your head on your loved one’s shoulder at this concert, as singer/songwriter Anka performs his famous hits.

17 SAT • The Scintas — The comedic talents of the Scintas will visit Michigan from their home in Las Vegas. Look for an evening of impressions, skits and variety.

23 FRI • Hank Williams Jr. — Bocephus will continue the tradition passed down from his father when he shows country music fans it’s all in the family.

25 SUN • George Benson and Natalie Cole — Combining their versatile artistry and deep jazz-pop songs, the two give a concert that will be unforgettable.

6 FRI • Aaron Carter — This teeny-bopper sensation will entertain second-graders everywhere with his sugary hits and wild adolescent moves. Nap times will not be provided at this event, so make sure your youngster is rested up for this miniature hit act.
