OK, we still have no idea what the hell midwestern mavens of mainstream Fall Out Boy were talking about in its 2005 breakout hit “Sugar, We’re Goin Down,” but if they’ve proved anything it’s that it doesn’t matter.

Fall Out Boy solidified themselves as pop punk royalty as early as their “Dance, Dance” days and have maintained their throne of unapologetic fun and fury ever since. So sharpen your eyeliner and lace up those Chuck Taylors, because these Boys (now men) are gearing up to release their forthcoming record next year, reminding us that rock ’n’ roll (or at least pop punk) never dies.
Fall Out Boy plays Little Caesars Arena on Tuesday, Oct. 24. Doors open at 7 p.m.; 2645 Woodward Ave., Detroit; 313-471-6611; olympiaentertainment.com; Tickets start at $50.50.
