This last week, we ran a long interview with Glaswegian soul scholar Stuart Cosgrove on the occasion of the publication this month of his great book Detroit 67. Jimmy Mack, “My World is on Fire”
This unknown singer's frantic dance song is the ‘60s soul answer to John Lee Hooker's “The Motor City is Burning.”

Rose Batiste, "I Miss My Baby"
Rose Batiste was a marketing assistant at Chrsyler. This atmospheric dance record on Revilot Records uses one of mid-60s Detroit's greatest ever backing tracks, the legendary 'Bari Tracks' by baritone saxophonist Mike Terry. 

Darrell Banks, "Open the Door to your Heart"
Darrell Banks was one of Detroit's unsung greats. This double sider was also recorded on Revilot Records, a label owned by Don Davis and jazz disc jockey and music director at Radio Station WCHB, LeBaron Taylor. Darrell Banks was shot dead by an off duty Detroit Police Officer in February 1970.

Hugely popular song on the UK's northern soul scene, Gardenia Barnes and her rasping falsetto voice leads one of the most popular songs with women dancers on the rare soul scene.
