Heaven must be missing an angel because Ann Arbor native and Berlin-based composer Laurel Halo released Raw Silk Uncut Wood earlier this month, and it just might be her most complex and cerebral achievement to date.
Halo has cultivated her sound by mixing formal education, inspiration from Detroit dance parties, and international travel. A follow-up to 2017’s Dust, a vocal-heavy collaborative album which made use of the artist’s expansive classical music background, Raw Silk Uncut Wood further explores Halo's brand of electronic ambiance. Pure Rave, Lalka, EC.
Laurel Halo will perform at noon on Saturday, July 28 at El Club; 4114 W. Vernor Hwy., Detroit; elclubdetroit.com; 313-279-7382; free.
