For all the updating posts on this year's Electric Forest check back here at the
Electric Forest on Metro Times Music Blog.
After a year off, the Double JJ Resort (home to 2008 and 2009's
Rothbury Music Festival) will re-open this Thursday for a smaller scale, first go-around called the
Electric Forest Festival. Similar to 2009's incarnation, EFF will be headlined by Colorado noodlers the
String Cheese Incident, but gone are big name headliners like Bob Dylan, The Dead or Dave Matthews. Check after the jump for a quick look at the lineup and see which Michigan artists are making their way to Electric Forest.
If you're unfamiliar with the setup of the festival, check these 360' panoramic views from 2009 of the festival's epicenter The Sherwood Forest. See the
night panorama here and
day panorama here.
So onto the music. As the name change indicates, the festival's focus has shifted onto more electronic artists like
Tiesto, and exponentially growing kiddie-raver dubstep favorites
Bassnectar,
Skrillex and Denver's
Pretty Lights. Also making an appearance will be British brain melter ,
Simon Posford, who brings his Shpongletron to the Sherwood Forest. For an idea of the weirdness Posford can bring check out
pictures from Shpongle's late night at this year's Bonnaroo.
However, if that doesn't seem like your cup of tea, don't let the mind melters, glowsticks and scantily clad underage tail distract you, there are plenty of full bands in addition to the slew of Dj shows. For funk and jazz you can check out
Karl Denson's Tiny Universe, New Orleans'
Galactic,
Lettuce and the
Pimps of Joytime. For indie rock you can check out
Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros or there's some daytime relaxing with
REO Speedwagon. Check back in the coming days here at MT Music Blog for a complete breakdown of each of the four days detailing must see shows.
As far as our Michigan faithful playing the fest, from Ann Arbor, Americana outfit
the Ragbirds are at Tripolee Stage, party band
the Macpodz at Sherwood Court and
Dragon Wagon at the Wagon Wheel. From Detroit,
Superdre will be playing at Wagon Wheel Stage and Detroit dubstep producer's
Cirque du Womp will be curating the Forest Stage. Check out some pictures from Cirque du Womp's
festival The Blastoff for an idea of what they'll bring to the Forest Stage. Also from Michigan are Kalamazoo's
Greensky Bluegrass at Sherwood Court.
Be sure to leave a comment and let us know which shows you're most excited for and head back here to
Metro Times Music Blog for interviews with Michigan artists, daily schedule breakdowns, continuing festival previews and updates this week. The festivities begin Thursday at 6:15pm and last until Sunday (well early Monday) at 1:15am. Check the lineup and schedules below or over at
