Detroit’s Movement Music Festival has announced an initial lineup for its 2025 event, set to return to Hart Plaza during Memorial Day weekend.
The first acts to be revealed include British DJ Carl Cox (doing his Hybrid Live Set), Chicago’s John Summit, Jamie xx of U.K. indie rock band the xx, and Detroit ghettotech act HiTech, among others.
“I’m stoked to be playing Movement for the third time and now, closing out the festival,” Summit said in a statement. “I’ve attended as a fan for years and the energy and support this city and crowd bring is always special. It’s an honor to be a part of such a legendary event.”
Jamie xx is a first-timer at the fest, in addition to U.K. producer and DJ Sammy Virj, Italian techno act Anfisa Letyago, English drum and bass duo Chase & Status, and Berlin’s DJ Gigola.
Returning favorites include Detroit’s DJ Minx and Carl Craig; Sama’ Abdulhadi, the “queen of the Palestinian techno scene”; and Brooklyn-based live instrumentalist Ela Minus, among others.
The festival is set for May 24-26, 2025 in Hart Plaza, which recently received much-needed renovations as part of a $9 million upgrade from President Joe Biden’s American Rescue Plan Act. Those include bringing the plaza’s futuristic Dodge and Son Memorial Fountain to full working order for the first time in years, dazzling revelers with its cool mist and color-changing LED lights.
