Rapper Snap Dogg is bringing his larger than life energy back into the world of boxing, but this time as a promoter instead of a fighter.
“Yeah, I’m basically on my Floyd shit,” Snap Dogg says.
Snap Dogg, a featherweight, made his professional boxing debut in 2021 defeating Yasser Abouleila by knockout in four rounds but hasn’t fought since. “It’s so hard for me to get a fight. I can stay pro and keep fighting pro fighters but that’s not what I want to do. I want to fight all the YouTubers, all the celebrities, but everybody running,” he says through a laugh.
This year Dogg started his own boxing promotions company, Slide Promotions, and his first event “Undisputed Boxing” will take place at the Mirage in Clinton Township on Saturday, Dec. 7.
Snap Dogg is the first Detroit rapper turned boxing promoter.
“Detroit doesn't get the light that they need when it comes to boxing,” he says. “We have so much talent here but it gets overlooked.”
The event will host a series of fights from fighters Joker, Nardo, Slime, Josiah, and Drew (who is managed by Dogg’s Slide Promotions).
Detroit hip-hop heavyweights Jack Funny, Icewear Vezzo, Anttbeatz, Helluva, Sada Baby, Royce da 5’9”, and Myron will also be in attendance, with a bonus performance by Snap Dogg himself.
“I’m going to perform, it’s actually on my birthday,” he adds.
Dogg believes this is the kind of event that Detroit’s boxing community needs. “This is going to be a night to remember,” he says. “They thought my fight was something but this fight is going to top that fight!”
Snap Dogg Presents Undisputed Boxing is set for 5:30-11 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7 at The Mirage; 16980 18 Mile Rd., Clinton Twp. Tickets for the all-ages event are $35-$1,000 and available at eventbrite.com.
