An exhibition dedicated to the Aretha Franklin is now on view at the Detroit Historical Museum.
The career-spanning Aretha educates patrons about the Queen of Soul's "prominent place in Detroit’s history through her roles as musical trailblazer and civil rights activist," according to a press release.
Among the exhibition's treasures are a nearly complete discography of the singer's works, courtesy of Dan and Denise Zieja of Eastpointe record store Melodies & Memories. The haul includes Franklin's first album “I Will Trust in the Lord, Vols. 1 and 2,” recorded live at her father's New Bethel Baptist Church in 1956 when the singer was just 14 years old. It also includes a rare lacquer test pressing of "Respect," which the
Aretha is on display through summer 2019.
