Watch: Destroy This Place - "Graves"

You probably think you’ve heard this record before. But spin it again. This is just what it sounds like when it’s done right; an indie-rock record by those once-angsty, punky kids after coming back around the block, a decade older and a decade keener – still making bombastic, swaggering, riff-heavy rock music but, listen closer, subtly more perceptive, this time, in composure, both in the songwriting and in demeanor.

Not all dad-rockers go sadcore like The National, some cling-to and then perfect that meticulous chugging charge and chop of quintessential keyed-up rock storms. Certain classics come to mind, Fugazi or Dinosaur Jr or others able to enter their thirties and still sound utterly explosive. On their second album, the local quartet hone aggressive, agitated, hooky rock n roll music; buzzy guitar roars curdled with reverb whipping wicked hooks and spurred with spitty, monosyllabic lyrics that taunt or shove-off in the very model of suburban-stung bravado. But done right, this time.
