I haven't seen Black Lips in years, and for some reason because I hadn't seem them in a while, I believed they were on the decline. Midway through the set tonight, watching as a bunch of young kids going bat shit crazy while they played, I realized that Black Lips weren't on the decline — I was!

The last few times I missed them, I chalked it up to some stupid excuse (work, price, etc), and now I'm coming to the conclusion that for years I've missed one of the best rock 'n' roll shows out there. Through the entire set everyone was either dancing or protecting their beer from the mass of dancers that spilled over in every direct including the stage.

Black Lips still have their all energy moving constantly, spitting, slamming beer, crowd surfing. They played all the jams: "Raw Meat," "O Katerina," "Everybody's Doin' It," culminating in a mass freak out at the end with "Bad Kids" — people jumping on stage, amps getting broken, just fucking nuts! Timmy Vulgar turned to me and said, "These guys remind me of The Stones and The Ramones."

I knew what he meant; this band's music is timeless. There will always a new group of twenty year olds slamming around upfront singing along while I'll just be the fat old guy making excuses while watching Breaking Bad on Netflix. Not anymore.
