Howard Glazer’s Stepchild of the Blues (City Hall) sees the local guitar virtuoso running through nine blues rock numbers that are all played with enthusiasm and an obvious love for the genre. Sadly, the polish is applied far too vigorously, removing the vast majority of the heart and soul. Glazer is an accomplished and technically proficient player, and his voice does the job just fine. But it all seems a little too by-numbers. There’s no inspiration beyond just rattling the tunes out. It’s good, but not good enough.
