Iggy Pop is on The Lone Ranger: Wanted, music inspired by the new Disney film. His tune, a traditional, morose little number called “Sweet Betsy From Pike”, is dark and beautiful, with more than a hint of his Coffee and Cigarettes co-star Tom Waits about it. Johnny Depp, friend of Iggy and Tonto in the film, has had a hand in the soundtrack, arranging and producing this song and others. Elsewhere, we get songs from Pogues man Shane Macgowan, Gomez and Iron & Wine. As a whole, the album isn’t awesome but there are some treats.

Nick Piunti has been making music for decades in bands like Dwarf and the Respectables, and if those groups were as good as Piunti the solo artist, based on the evidence on display with 13 in my Head, then I better get hip to them. This is a stunning power pop record, every song a melody-infused banquet. The title of the album is apt too; Piunti might not be a spring chicken any more, but the songs suggest that he’s lost none of his bounce, his enthusiasm. A magnificent album, all told.
