Detroiters who used to party at the infamous Todd’s Nightclub in the ‘80s will be delighted to know that they have a chance to relive their glory, and gory, years. There will be a reunion party at the Corktown Tavern in Detroit on Friday, November 23, the night after Thanksgiving. Cover is $7, and a portion of that will go to the Michigan Aids Coalition in honor of the many Todd’s employees.
A statement from Static Records says that, “Todd’s, formally known as Todd’s Sway Lounge, was a gay nightclub on Detroit’s far eastside that was on the cutting edge of the new wave of eighties music and lifestyle. They hosted bi-weekly dance parties and concerts that catered to a new generation.”
“The reunions are hosted by original Todd's club impresario -Stirling and promoter Sue Static. The reunion features the cutting edge original Todd's DJ-Charles English, spinning the familiar tunes that had you dancing decades ago. DJ Greebo provides the sounds downstairs. The night will feature drink specials of the drinks that the bar made famous, photo collages from that era and a live online feed of the night for Todd’s fans across the country. The reunion is now an annual Thanksgiving event for locals and former Detroiters who are in town for the holiday.”
