Apologies for being a little late with this nugget, but Inkster’s Motown legends the Marvelettes are among the nominations to be inducted into the Rock ’n’ Roll Hall of Fame, along with the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Chic, Deep Purple, Heart, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Albert King, Kraftwerk, The Meters, Randy Newman, N.W.A., Procol Harum, Public Enemy, Rush and Donna Summer.
Now, everybody knows that the institution isn’t perfect, and that the group that recorded Motown’s first number one (“Please Mr. Postman”) should obviously be in there (as long as you are willing to stretch your definition of rock ’n’ roll, as the organization has done for years).
Still, it seems insane that Deep Purple isn’t already in there, and that Joan Jett’s Blackhearts should be nominated before the Runaways.
But yeah, that’s the sort of thing that people yell every year. Suffice to say, congratulations to the Marvelettes. We hope you make it in.
