Jane of Arc is a female acoustic duo from Ferndale, and Freedom in Falling is the debut album, a delicate and passionate record packed with surprisingly lush tunes. We say “surprisingly” because the album art and the provided photos of the band point towards jangly singer-songwriter fare. In fact, there are orchestral arrangements, piano and the like on songs like “Fury of 1,000 Suns.” The two woman, Chelsea Carter and Elida Quesada, plus guitarist Kelly Rons, have gorgeous voices that fit together so perfectly that it would be easy to believe that there is in fact one singer and an electronic vocal effect. There isn’t. Jane of Arc has the ability to tug at your heartstrings on, for example, “Come Back To Me,” and then tie them in a knot and toss them overhead (“Your Last Song”). These songs could easily sit alongside Tegan & Sara on the radio, so hook-heavy are they midst the poignancy. Check these girls out.
