We’re taking a break from the weekly music review roundup this week, kinda.
Jack White’s debut solo single, “Love Interruption”, can be heard by clicking here.
The single is the first from the Blunderbuss album, available on April 24 on Third Man Records/Columbia. The record can be pre-ordered via that link now, and the single can be purchased with a non-LP B-side called “Machine Gun Silhouette”.
So what do you think of the song? It’s certainly a departure from the Raconteurs and is a lot more laid back than the White Stripes, although the male/female vocal interplay is reminiscent of the Stripes’ “It’s True That We Love One Another” from the Elephant album, with Holly Golightly.
However, the lyrics have nothing to do with love and romance, focusing instead on stabbing, biting and murdering someone’s mother. White does have a gift for creating poetry with dark subject matter though, and he’s at his most Nick Cave-ish here.
