Saturday, April 20 is Record Store Day and Street Corner Music in Oak Park has teamed up Charity Music Inc. to give something back.
They say, “Every year for five years, as we get excited about the cavalcade of new releases coming out on Record Store Day, we get dizzy with event planning for this extra fun day. Which bands can we get to play? Which DJs to host? Autograph signings? Free record totes? As Record Store Day sales become the new Christmas for record stores, well, we like to celebrate. We like to throw a party. All the stores participating do. We’ve all been looking for a reason to let loose in brick and mortar record stores. And on Record Store Day we do party. Which brings us to the question. What is Street Corner Music doing this year?
“No DJs. No bands. No silk screened goodies with our logo on it. Maybe some light refreshments. What will we do on our busiest day of the year? Call us party poopers but this year we’re giving back. Street Corner Music has teamed up with Charity Music Inc., a Michigan based non-profit that provides instruments free of charge to individuals wishing to explore their hidden musical talents. For every new vinyl LP sold on April 20th, Record Store Day 2013, we will donate $1 to Charity Music as well as provide a location for those who wish to donate more. Remember, this is our busiest day of the year. We would be fools to deny that Record Store Day has helped us so why not help others. Street Corner Music will be opening at 9 a.m. on April 20th, Record Store Day 2013, with coffee, cookies, tons of records, and a charitable spirit.
“So come join us on April 20, 2013 and celebrate Record Store Day with a cause. We might not have the best bands but we’ll have the best records and your purchase might help out the next Coltrane, Hendrix, or Hancock. Because in the end, where would Record Store Day and Street Corner Music be without new musicians to make the next wave of releases?
