Local, self-proclaimed “rock and rollgrass” band Catfish Mafia will open up for legendary (and we don’t use that word lightly) former Mott the Hoople singer Ian Hunter and his new group the Rant Band at the Magic Bag in Ferndale on Saturday. Doors at 8 p.m.

In Catfish Mafia’s own words, “In 2005, Nick Lucasian and Nick Raymond decided to start an acoustic group that would showcase Nick Lucaisian's songwriting. They called Steve Bennett and Scott Krause to complete the group. Scott had to bow out due to an expansion of his family, so Ben Luttermoser was brought into the mix. The band is a mixture of rock, soul and bluegrass. They are working on an album that is due out this summer.

Hunter, of course, should be a stranger to no one thanks to his work with Mott and his solo efforts. Songs like “All the Young Dudes” and “Once Bitten Twice Shy” will surely get an airing. The whole night should be spectacular.
