Chance the Rapper announces Detroit date

Chance the Rapper — hip hop's Next Big Thing for the last few years now — is coming back to the Fillmore after less than a year away from Michigan. The newly expectant father embarks on the "Family Matters" tour this fall, presumably bringing along his electrifying live band The Social Experiment. The show is on Sunday, October 18.

The Chicago-grown talent seems to really love playing up here in Michigan. Since his breakout mixtape Acid Rap in 2013, Chance has done shows in Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti, and East Lansing (you'd expect that much touring from a guy who releases all his music for free). He also did a show at the Fillmore last year that ended abruptly after some asshole threw beer at him. 

Personally, I've had the pleasure of seeing Chance several times both locally and in his hometown of Chicago, and I have to say he gets better and more powerful with every single show. With messages of pride and love, Chance commands a crowd like a much older, more experienced performer would, and his crowds are absolutely thrilled to be in his presence. Chance mentioned in his set at Pitchfork early this month that he's ready to mature and move forward with the next stage in his life, so this could be one of our last opportunities to catch him before he truly becomes a superstar.
