“The music industry needs more young female rappers,” teenage Detroit emcee Lady Te says. “I keep it real. I write my own songs and I write from my heart when I’m happy, sad or mad. I am a young lady and I can’t say everything that I want to say, so I express myself in my songs.” The tracks on Te's MySpace are pretty great, blending crunk's anticipation-building high-ends and trunk-rattling lows with a lyrical mentality that crosses the usual obsessions of teenage girls — shopping, boys, and looking good — with Te's stance on that traditionalism, which is that she’s the boss, she’s driving the truck, and she’s putting her number in your phone. Maybe.
