Two things y'all may be interesting in knowing -- the first for jazzbos (although it's certainly not totally limited to that genre); the second for the more rock 'n' roll-inclined among you:
The Detroit International Jazz Festival -- frequently hailed as one of the top five jazz festivals in the U.S. -- is now accepting submissions from local and regional artists interested in performing at the 30th anniversary event, which will take place this year September 4th through the 7th.
"There aren't nearly enough slots for all of the qualified musicians, so the competition is fierce," says Terri Pontremoli, executive director of the DJF. "The music legacy in this town is very deep, and to this day, strong, young artists are coming through the ranks."
Submissions in jazz, blues, Latin, funk, gospel, R&B and the avant-garde must be received by March 15th. Materials will be reviewed by a committee that will then make recommendations. Selected artists will be announced in May. For more information, contact [email protected].

On the second, more rockin' front, although local legend Stirling is no longer booking acts upstairs at Jacoby's (still the home of the best gardenburger in downtown Detroit and beyond), the restaurant-bar is looking to book local bands again on Friday and Saturday nights.
