Local musician Dennis Liegghio was 14 years old when his father committed suicide. It naturally led to depression, but Liegghio eventually channeled that depression into music and his local band, Student Driver.
Suicide is an epidemic in this country, and part of Liegghio’s crusade is to educate the public. To that end, he has compiled a CD, Breaking the Silence, Volume One, featuring various international bands weighing in on suicide prevention and awareness. And he’s organized a benefit concert and dinner that will take place tomorrow (Sat., November 17th) at the Mirage Banquet Hall, 16980 18 Mile Rd., Clinton Township. A donation of $75 includes dinner, premium open bar and live music. There will also be a silent auction, 50/50 raffle and a car raffle.
Student Driver is among the bands performing. Other artists performing include Chicago’s Robbie Conaway, Liz Stahler from Boston, the Ghettobillies (also from Chicago) and Tony Rome & The Fabulous C Notes from good old Detroit. Special guest speaker will be Bev Cobain, an aunt of the late Kurt Cobain (no explanation necessary). Call 877-228-9550 for more information or visit www.noresolve.org. All proceeds will go to local and national suicide prevention organizations. The CD is also available for $12 at the Website.

Kurt Cobain: Despite the M*A*S*H song, suicide is not painless for anyone.
