In a surprise move this week, Bjork officially released her new album, Vulnicura, two months ahead of schedule. Having leaked days ago, the Icelandic artist apparently decided to cut to the chase and release the album on her own terms.

What does this mean for the music industry? Several things. First of all, Bjork fans get the album well ahead of schedule. Secondly, and more unfortunately, it also means that music piracy has forced the hand of the artist once again. But it does add yet another popular release to an already-stacked lineup of album releases that took place this week.

The positives, for the average music fan, far outweigh the negatives. Every Bjork fan out there gets to hear Vulnicura ahead of time – legally. For even the novice Bjork fan, that’s good news. She is thrust into the musical conscious once again! For the tried-and-true diehard Bjork fans (that mythical unicorn-like creature, much like the ever-elusive Tom Waits fan), rejoice in that fact that you have another subpar release from Bjork to listen to!

In the meantime, enjoy one of Kristen Wiig’s legendary impersonations of Bjork…
