"The Scarab Club of Detroit is the outgrowth of the Hopkin Club, which was started about 1907 by admirers of old 'Bob' Hopkin, Detroit's first painter of wide repute. After Hopkin's death in 1910, the Club was reorganized and renamed the Scarab Club, after the Egyptian beetle which was their symbol of imortality. ... Our mission is to encourage the fellowship between artists and those interested in the arts, and to provide a place where artists may create and exhibit their work.
