MLive reports that Young, who was co-owner of Zingerman's Roadhouse for 15 years, departed to open a space called The Standard Bistro and Larder in Scio Township's former Creekside Grill. When ready in October, the building will hold the feel of a 1930s French bistro with black-and-white patterned tilework, wooden beams built into the ceilings, and Art Deco-inspired decor.
Diners can expect to find a menu with items like homemade filled pastas and soup stock, a dedicated pastry selection and pot-au-feu, or beef stew. Young says cuisines from across France's different regions will be represented at Standard.
"It's not just limiting my cuisine in any way, shape or form, it's sparking it," Young tells MLive. "I'm super excited about the opportunity to work with these different cuisines."
He won 2011 James Beard Foundation award in the Best Chefs in America category.
