A new Yemeni-American sub shop called Fantastic Subs is taking the place of Mocha Cafe, another Hamtramck sandwich maker that was also home to the wonderful cake cup.

Mocha recently shut down its Hamtramck location, though it's not clear why. We've reached out to the owners for comment. The Hamtramck Mocha Cafe has no relation to the Dearborn restaurant of the same name.

Mocha Cafe served a variety of sandwiches from shawarma to Philly cheese steak rolls to burgers, and Fantastic Subs owner tells Metro Times the new shop will have a similar menu with many of the same items.

But Fantastic Subs will tweak some of the dishes and offer a few of its own sandwiches, as well as cakes and other sweets.

Check out our review of Mocha Cafe here. We also talked about the cake cup in our exploration of Hamtramck's sweet side and included it in our top 10 desserts of 2017.

Fantastic Subs will open as soon as it finishes some minor renovations and it receives its sign.
