On Dec. 16, after three years in business, Detroit Artifactry announced it would close to make way for a new project. Owner Gail Kaye (mother of Detroit restauranteur Dave Kwiatkowski), ran the shop where she sold vintage items, Detroit memorabilia, jewelry, and other unique wares.

Now, another Kwiatkowski is taking over this space — this time it's John Kwiatkowski and he's planning to open a gourmet pizza restaurant inside 2135 Michigan Ave.

WDIV reports the joint will serve, "artisanal, Detroit-style pizzas" along with "locally brewed beers and hard ciders."

Kwiatkowski told WDIV he's been hoping to revamp the pizza joint experience for some time.

“Detroit needed a place where unique pizzas with quality ingredients could be completely savored with friends," he said.

No opening date has been announced.
