Unburger Grill, a vegan fast food restaurant focused on plant-based burgers and sides, is being planned for west Dearborn.
Co-owners and brother and sister Christopher Oliver and Jane Beckwith tell
Metro Times they hope to have their spot at 22018 W. Michigan Ave. open by the end of summer.
While the menu is still a work in progress, diners can expect plant-based burger options like the black bean and portabello mushroom; chickpea oat and red Thai curry; quinoa, spaghetti squash and BBQ; and The Raw Monster with stuffed portabello mushroom with herb tomato stuffing.
Side dishes include sweet potato and granny smith apple salad, Brussels sprout slaw with lime cilantro dressing, summer squash sauté with red onion and peppers, marinated vegetable salad in fresh herb vinaigrette, and zoodle pasta salad.
The menu will also offer green salads, smoothies, and rotating specials.
Oliver and Beckwith say that the prices will be in line with what people pay at traditional fast food restaurants.
Oliver, Unburger's executive chef, says he went vegan two years ago when he was diagnosed with diabetes.
“Just two years ago my doctor informed me my diabetes was out of control,” he says. “I made radical changes and embraced plant-based eating. My life improved dramatically. I achieved victory over diabetes.”
Unburger is currently holding a Kickstarter campaign that can be found
