Downtown Ferndale eatery the Emory is closing its doors at the end of the month, according to an announcement made on social media Friday morning.
“We’re looking to be more accessible and good for any appetite,” general manager Jesse Shepherd-Bates told Metro Times back in April 2023. “We went from a place that had very little competition as a date spot to now, we’re a little on the old and tired side.”
“We’ve loved seeing the city grow and seeing our staff evolve and move on to do amazing things,” the restaurant's management said in a statement. “And at the end of 2024, we’ll be writing [our] last chapter.”
“This will leave a hole in my heart,” Ferndale resident Laura Mikulski wrote on the restaurant’s Facebook page. “My husband and I were there so often that it became a regular part of our lives, and we had our wedding rehearsal dinner there. After having our daughter, this was one of the few places we went to knowing that we'd be able to wrangle her in a booth and have a comfortable, quiet night out. Thank you for all the memories (and all the turkey burgers).”
“My husband and I had our first date at The Emory in 2015,” added longtime patron Stephanie Bell. “We have now been married for 6.5 years and have two beautiful daughters. Grateful for the role The Emory played in starting our relationship!”
The Emory is located at 22700 Woodward Avenue, next to Woodward Avenue Brewers (the WAB).
