President Donald Trump recently included Haiti in his list of "shithole" countries, because, well, that's the world in which we now live.

Just as Ferndale's Livernois Tap responded to a batshit Trump Twitter rant, in which he asserted that he's a "very stable genius," with a beer named such, The Conserva is responding to Trump's awful Haitian comments with the Haitian Food X French Wine dinner. It will be held at the restaurant tonight.

The Conserva issued the following statement via their Facebook page.

"This theme has a lot to do with benefitting the current political climate in America. *Ahem* the POTUS. The goal of this dinner is to throw some love back to Haiti, and we're looking at Consolation Center Haiti/Centre le Reconfort Haiti — a Haitian-run organization that helps Haitian girls and women escape some of the numerous hardships and violence that face them daily."

The dinner is the second installment of a series in which The Conserva chooses a region and explores how its geography and culture impacts the region's wine and food, and offers diners a chance to sample regional dishes

The menu includes:
Amuse Bouche: Accra fritters (black-eyed pea-based) with tostones (double-fried plantains)
Grilled conch with a sweet and spicy mango salad
Poisson gros sol (red snapper, tomato, garlic, spices)
Slow roasted, spice-rubbed goat with sòs pwa nwa and grilled bread
Beignets and coconut-mango ice cream
All dishes served with rice and pikliz
