Six years ago, Cafe Con Leche opened on Vernor Highway across from Southwest Detroit's Clark Park, quickly establishing itself as a cultural gem in the neighborhood. Apparently, things are going well for the coffee shop, with owner Jordi Carbonell opening a second location on W. Grand Blvd. in Detroit's New Center neighborhood late last year.

The shop is currently in the middle of an ambitious fundraising campaign using the crowdfunding site Patronicity. The management is seeking $15,000 to expand the original Clark Park location's 900 square-foot building by an additional 800 square feet, adding a new bar, more seating, a new color scheme, permanent fixtures for art, and installing ceiling sound buffers to improve acoustics for live events.
