Poppies, a
new Polish concept by Rose's Fine Food owner Molly Mitchell could be open by mid-summer.
Mitchell previously hoped to have the 1,600-square-foot space on the northeast corner of Van Dyke Avenue and Agnes Street ready by summer 2018. The plans ran into some delays, but
Eater reports that Mitchell secured permits and funding from a Motor City Match grant, and the project is moving forward.
Though the menu is still in the works, expect pierogi, pickles, sausages, sandwiches, mustards, and other polish standards built with a focus on seasonality and locally sourced ingredients. Mitchell is also bringing over Rose's head baker, Eggy Ding, to run the bakery.
A poppy is Poland's national flower, and Mitchell's Polish heritage and her grandparents are what inspired the restaurant. Read more about that and the plans for Poppies
