Retail wine shop opens in downtown Detroit

New businesses are opening daily in Detroit. It's a sign the city is on the path to a true economic renaissance. In the past few years we've seen Shinola, John Varvatos, Will Leather Goods, and other high end retailers open up inside city limits and yet another swanky shop will be celebrating it's grand opening tomorrow 

House of Pure Vin is a posh new retail wine spot that just opened on the first floor of the Lofts at Merchants Row on Woodward Avenue. Co-owners Regina Gaines, Terry Mullins, and Andrea Dunbar are all native Detroiters who returned home in hopes of investing in the city's resurgence. 

"We are excited to be opening our first wine shop in downtown Detroit," Gaines said in a release. "My partners and I want to contribute to the rebirth of Detroit, and this is our way of making a difference. Wine is one of my passions and I believe Michigan has some of the best wines and wineries in the country. House of Pure Vin is designed as a sleek retail store that will offer customers an engagement experience from tasting featured wines to education on the types of wines, growing areas, and unique tasting notes." 

The 3,100 square foot shop will stock 4,000 bottles initially, and will double that number come 2016. Around half of those bottles will come from Michigan and another 40 percent will be from around the U.S. The space will also have a tasting room and a champagne room.

The shop's grand opening is tomorrow at 11 a.m. and Mayor Mike Duggan will speak at the ceremony. 

House of Pure Vin will be open Monday through Thursday from noon to 4 p.m., Friday and Saturday from noon to 11 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. It's located at 1433 Woodward Avenue in downtown Detroit.
