Now hiring: Opening of Jacques Driscoll's Huron Room in Mexicantown nears
Facebook

Jacques Driscoll brought us the gourmet slider at Green Dot Stables. Then he opened Johnny Noodle King, an earnest take on the classic noodle joint. Now his latest culinary venture, Huron Room, is inching closer to an open date (the spot is now looking for staff members, details below), thus expanding the restaurateur's hold in the city's southwest side.

Huron Room's concept is that of a fish and chips joint and places a heavy emphasis on Great Lakes fish and Michigan beers, wines and spirits (for added effect, the statue of a huge lake fish appears to be swimming through the corner of the building). Chef Les Molnar previewed a menu sampling at Motor City Wine over the summer that featured a smelt basket, venison bahn mi and a Michigan apple cake. This addition, situated next to vodka distillery Our/Detroit, changes up dining options for the neighborhood that is more often associated with old school Mexican eateries. Now the search is on for a crew. An open call for all positions will take place 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 5-6, and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Oct. 7 at the restaurant at 2547 Bagley St.
