Metro Detroit is home to another izakaya (Japanese gastropub) after Katsu Detroit opened in Woodbridge on Friday.
The restaurant offers a long list of daily specials and does some of its cooking on a traditional yakitori charcoal grill used for preparing skewered meats. The menu also holds a selection of small plates with options like karaage (Japanese fried chicken), kibanago karaage (pond herring deep fried with salt), ramen, udon, and a full selection of Japanese beer, sake, and spirits.
Joshua Chiatovich partnered with Roy Chen and Katsu Yama on the concept. Yama's "Katsu" brand has locations in Vietnam, Japan and other Asian countries.
Among those izakayas Katsu joins are the recently-opened in Antihero in Ferndale, Kitchen Hanzo in West Bloomfield, Oishi in Novi, and Fumi in Novi.
Katsu is located at 5069 Trumbull Ave.
