Uncorking in Corktown — There are big changes in the works for our favorite downtown wine shop. Motor City Wine has been in the space above Foran’s Grand Trunk Pub on Woodward for several years now. The shop’s emphasis on wines with reasonable prices and big flavors is a hit, as well as the live music performances that sometimes take over the small shop. And it was an excellent place to attract buyers, because of all the foodies and craft beer nuts who dined downstairs: They could take home a nice bottle of wine after their post-work meal. But the owners have recently acquired a 2,000-square-foot building at 1949 Michigan Ave. in Corktown. There, wine-buyers can park more than their keister, they can park their cars too. In car-centric Detroit, that’s gotta be a bonus. So, starting sometime this fall, you can expect people to come in, taste, buy and drink wine, and watch live music. Watch for changes to the former Express Bar, on Michigan Avenue across the street from the White Castle.

Format-busters — With pop-ups, food trucks and other inventive dining ideas cropping up, it was only a matter of time before a high-end market unveiled a dining concept. In this case, the market is Birmingham’s Papa Joe’s, and the dining spot is Bistro Joe’s. Located on the second floor, just upstairs from the retail space, it’s a casual dining spot serving excellent food made with the same specialty ingredients on sale downstairs. It’s been open for about six weeks, and it’s already garnering buzz. Best of all: You’ll never need to go shopping hungry again. Bistro Joe’s is at 34244 Woodward Ave., Birmingham; 248-594-0984; bistrojoeskitchen.com.

Easy Breezy — Corktown’s brand-new Ottava Via isn’t the only Italian option in Detroit emerging this summer. The good folks over at the MGM Grand Detroit’s Breeze Dining Court have added “Red Sauce,” a fast dining outlet serving pizzas and other Italian specialties. Red Sauce is open daily from 11 a.m. to 4 a.m. inside MGM Grand Detroit, 1777 Third St., Detroit.

Up-to-date dining — There’s a new restaurant in the revamped Pontchartrain Crowne Plaza. The menu is fusion, the chef is a millennial, and the patio is open. Drop in for a taste at 2 Washington Blvd., Detroit; 313-965-0200.

More barbecue? — Thanks for all your comments on our barbecue issue. You pointed out that Vicki’s takes credit cards (sorry, our goof), told us about Chef Noodles BBQ and Corned Beef (southwest corner of Loon Lake and Wixom roads, Wixom; 248-660-7475), and a few raved about Ron’s Roadside BBQ (5850 Pontiac Trail, Ann Arbor; 734-665-4967). Another brought Dickies Barbecue Pit (3672 Rochester Rd., Troy; 248-250-9263).  Just goes to show you, the metro Detroit area just can’t get enough of dem bones! mt
