With St. Patrick's Day quickly approaching, it behooves us to mention something about whiskey. And although Jack Daniels is an American brand, crafted in a dry county in Tennessee, oddly enough, we think you'll agree that the brand is still appropriate to drink on the drunkest holiday of the year.
Jack Daniel's, which is already responsible for some seriously classic bottles of whiskey, just announced a new addition to their extra fancy Single Barrel Collection. Third in line behind Single Barrel Select and Single Barrel Proof, Single Barrel Rye is crafted from 70 percent rye, 18 percent corn, and 12 percent malted barley grains and cave spring water from the Jack Daniel's Hollow that gives the whiskey a clean, sweet tone to start and ends with a distinct, short finish.
The release is a source of pride for master distiller Jeff Arnett and he gushed about the rye in a press release, saying: "Rye was one of the earliest forms of American whiskey and as the Master Distiller at Jack Daniel's, I'm proud to honor that history with the release of Single Barrel Rye. There is a reemerging trend of rye whiskeys and we are excited to be able to give friends of Jack Daniel's a chance to experience it."
Bottles won't come cheap — they're about $50 — but it's money well spent on a well-crafted and classic whiskey that's perfect for sipping. Just make sure you put it away before the party really gets started.
