Evil Twin Brewing
Low Life Pilsner | 5.5%
Evil Twin Brewing was founded just five years ago in Denmark. In two years founder Jeppe Jarnit-Bjergso, a former schoolteacher, took the brewery from a fledgling company to one that launched 40 beers in 2012 alone. Now, Evil Twin makes 10 signature beers that are available in six countries, and user-run sites like Beer Advocate, RateBeer, and Untappd consider the brewery to be one of the best in the world.
Evil Twin isn't your typical brewery. The brand, which is now headquartered in Brooklyn, New York, doesn't operate an actual brewery. Instead, beers are crafted in other brewery's facilities. Their 10 signature brews are made at 10 different breweries around the world.
Low Life Pilsner is one of Evil Twin's popular brews. It's made at Two Roads Brewing Co. in Connecticut, and the 5.5 percent ABV brew is styled after a German pilsner. It has an overall clean taste and light body that make it an ideally sessionable brew.
Like a typical pilsner, Low Life pours a light, clear gold with a foamy, white head. Also like a typical pilsner, there's no over-the-top flavor. It's mild and and unassuming, yet well balanced. Unlike a typical pilsner, it's clean, bright, and satisfying. Also unlike a typical pilsner, Low Life doesn't take itself too seriously. Evil Twin described the beer as such: "We threw in a young, unacknowledged hoppy pilsner, gave it a limp, wrinkly flavor, and finished it off with an insulting high price that will give you a foul feeling in your mouth. That's why we name Evil Twin Brewing's Low Life the 'Golddigger of Beers'." Hopefully, we don't have to explain that joke to you.
