Firebird Tavern recently started up this new program. They call it "Charitable Drink of the Week." Basically, when you order the week's special cocktail, $2 will go toward a local non-profit, with the nonprofits rotating monthly. This month they're donating to the Project Scissors Gait Foundation. The charity supports people born with Eagle-Barrett Syndrome and Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita, working closely with the afflicted as well as their families. According to a press release the nonprofit's executive director, Marty Sheedy, is a friend of Firebird Tavern.
Until tomorrow night (Saturday, March 7) the special cocktail is the basil gimlet. The beverage includes Boodles gin, fresh-squeezed lime juice, and basil syrup. From March 9-14 the Strong Gait will take over. It's made with Dobel tequila, McClary Bros. beet carrot drinking vinegar, and soda. From March 15-21, the Bush Mule (pictured here) will be the featured drinks. It's a special take on the traditional Russian cocktail, a Moscow Mule. Perfect for St. Patrick's Day, it's made with Bushmill's Irish Whiskey, ginger beer, lemon juice, and orange bitters.
It's also worth it to note that this program is the brain-child of award-winning bartender Mike. St. Louis. Last October we profiled him for our Hots Shotz column, in case you missed it.
