Up on the second floor of Checker Bar & Grill, some impressive culinary ideas are being tried out in pop-up form.

You may not know the name Steven Reaume, but if you’re a fan of the fare at Foran’s Grand Trunk Pub, especially their elaborate weekend brunches, he’s the main man to thank.

In addition to managing the pub’s kitchen, he’s also working for Grand Trunk owner Tim Tharp managing the upstairs space at Checker Bar & Grill (or, simply, Checker's), which Tharp purchased last year.

That opens up a whole new batch of possibilities for Reaume, who tells us, “We’re taking the second floor and doing a venue up there right now that we’re calling ‘Pop,’ and every Thursday we’re doing pop-ups that mainly involve food, but we’re also incorporating art and music into those events.”

Upcoming events include “Chops,” happening Thursday, Feb. 5, featuring a fixed price dinner by chef Arthur Harris, including lamp chops rubbed with seven spices and served with a mint jelly, as well as “wild dirty rice” and “honey-glazed tricolor carrots” with a chocolate mousse for a sweet finish.

On Feb. 12, it’ll be “Detroit Delhi” from chef Jesse Knott. Further events sound no less interesting, with “Salt and Acid: Food by Chef Reva Constantine and Elijah Smith” on Feb. 19, “The Lava Cake Bar : Food by Chez Chloé” on Feb. 26, and “Bolti: Food by Meghhan Shaw & Sam Beurger” on March 5.

More details are available via checkerbar.com, where upcoming Pop events are featured at the bottom of the main page.
